Be extremely careful if you plan to buy or use a previously owned helmet. They may not provide the protection you or your child need. The purpose of a safety helmet is to absorb the impact of a fall, so that the pressure goes to the helmet, not the brain. If this should happen, the safety lining may crack This means that the helmet has done it's job in protecting the brain, but it may render the helmet unsafe. Unless you are POSITIVE that the helmet you are considering has not been dropped, or stepped on or been involved in a fall, DO NOT USE IT. You can send it back to the manufacturer for an inspection.
